Looking good?
It's about this time in a project when we should start thinking about not just how a site should function, but how we want it to look.
So, use this as an open thread to talk about how we want the site to look.

Well... You still have our proposal there, don't you? ;-)

I think the following activities need to be done inorder to create a good looking site:
-Logo Design,
-Color Scheme,
-Button Design,
-Typography(Font and word/line spacing),
-General Layout.
I think white background and some yellow. Just like a bowl of custard.

-: Change the GIFS, etc, so it's not so much of a TechCrunch rip-off
-: If Javascript enabled, set default focus on forms
-: Handle not-founds with a 404
-: Keep checking on 800x600, since that's still in use by ~15% of users (more in developing countries?) - and this is often the un-maxed size of the browser anyway for some people with bigger screens - and this is even all you're left with sometimes when you use a sidebar....
-: Calm it down a bit: too much full-black and bold
-: sort out 'your'/'my' issues!
-: 'your stuff' is clunky
-: The CSS is full of junk and needs cleaning up

I think the stuff in the right hand side bar could do with some shuffling. The first set of things (home, profile, about melt, forget me) could be rejigged, perhaps as top navigation which would allow search and crucially my stuff to be moved up.
I think we should try and keep My Stuff 'above the fold' on all pages if we can.
A few more colours would be nice too.

In terms of functionality and design you might be interested looking at http://www.newsvine.com which is currently in closed beta. They have some interesting implementation of tagging and localization features as well as reputation and "spread-the-word" mechanisms . An early review can be found here: http://solutionwatch.com/305/newsvine-seeding-the-vine/
Second recommendation would be http://www.tokyoartbeat.com/ different objectives, similar stories.

I viewed Custard Melt on a Toshiba laptop and found it hard to read. Some other blogs seem to have the same problem. The blue type comes out as a light blue-gray and simply doesn't provide enough contrast.
Please revise the color scheme so the text is darker.
Thanks -
Rol
