"28 November 2006 - A few days after our dive near Espíritu Santo - where we sent a message to the Mexican government: "Marine Reserves now!" - the decree was finally signed and the area will now be protected."
Wow. Sometimes, when you've got your head stuck into the screen of yer laptop, you don't realise the span and depth of what goes on in our Greenpeace world. I had thought that it was a relatively quiet month. But looking back at just 13 photographs from around the planet, I realise I'm completely wrong...

Greenpeace activists sunbath on the glacier of the Marmolada mountain in the Dolomites Alps in Northern Italy, to demonstrate how the temperatures have risen in recent times. The glacier has retreated 650 meters in the last 60 years. Greenpeace is highlighting the effects of climate change prior to the start of the UN Conference on climate change in Nairobi, Kenya.

One of our Oceans campaigners, Sarah, has just pointed out this posting to Galley Gossip. A user called "goecco.com" has linked to their Flickr.com account, with some absolutely amazing but horrifically graphic photographs from the last few days, showing a whale being slaughtered .

Here's the top photos from Greenpeace photographers during September. Some sobering stuff...
Above:
19 September 2006 - Aerial view of the mud gushing out of a Lapindo Brantas Inc. gas exploration well in Sidoarjo, East Java. The situation is slipping beyond control and called on President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to hold Lapindo and its shareholders, Bakrie Group, Santos of Australia and Medco Group, fully accountable for one of Indonesia's worst industrial disasters.
18 August 2006 - A local fisherman stands ankle deep in oil spilled on the beaches near his home. The spill began on August 11 when Solar I, a Petron-chartered single hull vessel carrying 2.1 million litres of oil sank in the Guimaras Strait, about 500km southeast of Manila.
