A Wiseman’s words: choose losing money over destructing the environment
This week, the Dalai Lama visited Calgary, Alberta, Canada and spoke about the problems the world is facing today. Thousands gathered to hear the spiritual leader’s compassionate message and opinion about issues such as military intervention in Afghanistan and Iraq.
"The destruction of your neighbour is destruction of yourself,” he said. “The concept of war is out of date."
While on the topic of destruction, when asked about Alberta’s oilsands, the spiritual leader said, in a choice between "destruction of environment or losing money, then we have to choose losing money."
His words of wisdom ring so true.
Earlier this week, Greenpeace activists returned to the Alberta tar sands shutting down a conveyor belt in an open pit mine to renew the call for the tar sands to be abandoned - in the interest of the climate and the health of the local people.
It is the second action in recent weeks to oppose the continued development of this vast and dirty oil reserve which is trapped deep underneath vast sections of Canada’s boreal forest. Our previous action brought Shell’s Albian mine to a halt, where 25 activists occupied two giant dumptrucks and a crane for over 30 hours.
Stop destruction, stop the tar sands!

Tar sand mining has to be stopped, so does mountaintop removal coal mining! Keep up the good work, Greenpeace!
