Follow the US candiates oil money

oilmap.jpg

With the news is dominated today by 'Super Tuesday' in the US I saw this interesting graphic yesterday on which candidate gets the most money from oil companies. Who do you think, for instance, gets the most cash from climate trashing Exxon? Barack Obama.

The graphic from OilChange International definitely looks like it was inspired by our own Exxon Secrets website.

The oil info is interesting but after looking again at Grist's candidates comparison on climate, (notice how they all support dirty coal) it would be interesting to see which one the coal industry or coal dependant energy utilities are funding. Know a good source of this info? Post it in the comments.

Then there's Obama's nuclear money...

Obama Weakened Nuclear Safety Bill After Consulting With Firm

He has received substantial donations from the nuclear industry.

I'm voting today. Not for a Republican of course. The reality of American politics these days is that each candidate has some kind of corporate ties. Clinton has received donations from those tied to big oil. Obama has received substantial donations from those in the nuclear industry (like, the CEO of Exelon Corporation).

The way I see it, we're always going to be screwed in one way or another, but at least the Democrats won't drill for oil in the Arctic or otherwise destroy the environment... at least, not as much as any Republican would.

Sigh. We'll see. I just know that a President McCain would be disastrous.

Thanks Page! But Clinton also takes cash from the nuke industry (Washington Post story).

And it's worth pointing out that, according to OilChangeInternational, Clinton has taken far more money than Obama from the oil industry this election season.

Republicans? As Grist says, "Coincidentally, all four of these top oil guys are Republicans."

Hey Andrew,

Doh, how'd I miss that? I'm not surprised, though. I'm bookmarking that article, and you can take away my nuke nerd badge for missing it ;-)
