Bulb changing in Italy
We're calling for governments around the world to ban the bulb, but we're not waiting for them. Here's Greenpeace Italy local group activists changing bulbs all over town.
Reminds me a little of this fantastic video.

This is a great commercial and such an important program. Have there been a lot of donations to the fund you mentioned in the April 2007 article? This is the kind of initiative that should be presented at a big event like the Art Center Global Dialogues (http://blog.globaldialogues.eu/) to drum up publicity. I work for Art Center, but won't be able to attend the event in Barcelona. I think Green Peace would be a very powerful voice on climate change, geopolitics and green design and culture. I hope that there is some representation there. You can also find more info about it at here

Greenpeace: plans to cut down on energy use, electricity, fossil fuel, and end the use nuclear energy are good. Buy why encourage the use of CFL( compact fluorescent light) they contain mercury a neurotoxin, and this waste will not disappear but accumulate in the oceans, and earth; the use of fluorescent lights-- even the one that has the least amount of mercury and other harmful gases, would still pollute our environment. The incandescent light uses more energy-yes, but it does not pollute and poison us. We should cut buck on light use by turning off lights when not in room, working in the day and sleeping the night more. Perhaps switch to solar powered light or non-toxic lights. The incandescent is safer and while I admire the thought behind the campaign to use less energy, I don't favor the option of poisoning the earth with mercury waste. Another problem with CFL is their flicker problem.
Many of my friends and me get headaches from these lights, and the incandescent light does not give me such headaches. It is also hard on the eyes. Studies have been done that show it affects the immune system- making it weaker, and is known to cause depression, and possibly skin cancer. So knowing Greenpeace has health conscious principles, and takes the role of steward of the earth with respect, why should we endorse this dangerous technology? Reports on the high levels of mercury in the ocean fish, and the growing poisoning of our bodies by eating seafood have been published over the years by Greenpeace and other sources. I do not agree the endorsement of CFLs. Mercury and other radioactive elements i.e. barium, radium and company poison our environment.
Aren't we proposing to add more mercury into the environment by encouraging nations switch to using a fluorescent lamp or fluorescent tube. (Wikipedia definition for fluorescent lamp/tube : is a gas-discharge lamp that uses electricity to excite mercury vapor in argon or neon gas, resulting in a plasma that produces short-wave ultraviolet light. This light then causes a phosphor to fluoresce, producing visible light.)
