Not protesting in public can be a political statement. The amount of energy needed to run a street protest could possible be put to better use?

Ah, we get this comment a lot. Even Angela Merkel once asked how much CO2 our Zodiacs use after we used them to remind the G8 that climate change was something they should be focusing on. And of course the answer is of course that in the scheme of things tiny, insignificant amounts of energy are expended by our activities.
A coal powerstation provides enough energy for tens of thousands of homes. An oil refinery can meet the fuel needs of a million cars. If that powerstation becomes a windfarm, or that refinery turns out not to be needed then the world is far far better off.
When we exercise our right to protest, to bring to the forefront of our leaders minds issues on which the public feel strongly we are engaging in about the most efficient use of energy imaginable.
It was these kinds of actions that helped put climate change on the map when nobody else would talk about it, that helped bring about the Kyoto Treaty and that are helping drive climate change up the agenda in the Australian Election.
Of course we engage in plenty of behind the scenes campaigning, but while there are plenty who would like us to stay there we prefer to make our case in public for the public.

We know our people take care of saving energy all year long, and we are confident, they do street actions the best way they can do.
