An island goes under water as sea levels rise

On Christmas Day the UK newspaper "The Independent" reported that an entire island is now submerged thanks to global warming.

"Rising seas, caused by global warming, have for the first time washed an inhabited island off the face of the Earth. The obliteration of Lohachara island, in India's part of the Sundarbans where the Ganges and the Brahmaputra rivers empty into the Bay of Bengal, marks the moment when one of the most apocalyptic predictions of environmentalists and climate scientists has started coming true."

While India might be one of the world's greatest emitters of carbon dioxide - it hardly seems fair that people from that country are now suffering so much from climate change when Co2 emissions per capita in India are much lower than where I come from for example.

India - 1.19 metric tons per capita
United Kingdom - 9.4 metric tons per capita

all this talk of climate change, conservation, CO2 blah blah blah. is there anything out there that is preaching to the UNCONVERTED. i find it sad that most of the environmental media is aimed at those already recycling, using public transport, grey water, electric cars, solar panels, wind generators etc etc etc. we are all guilty but we all know that we americans are the main culprits of environmental indifference. we change and the chinese, indians, europeans etc will no longer have mandate to destroy our planet. i think that the time has come to take conservation to the right wing and explain to them, in terms that they will understand, what there wasteful ways are doing to our economy. it might also be a good idea to aim a conservation drive at the religious SUV driving crackpots here. did the lord not say "waste not, want not" i quote under correction. perhaps it would be good to start a campaign with that slogan. it might also be a an idea for jehovah witness style onslaught to tackle the environmental ignorance. i really want to get involved i just dont want to sit around a fire with a couple of tree huggers singing koombayah, while gas guzzling rednecks remain ignorant to what waste is doing to their economy, environment and moral fibre. ps- it is very early in the morning, just woken up so please excuse the spelling and any offence to anyone. also if anyone knows of any projects dealing with the "unconverted" please let me know

China and india combined have more than a third of the worlds population, america uses and spews out a quarter of the total worlds energy and pollution.America is 1 fith the worlds population.Who should make the sacrifice, the west which is developed or developing nations.China knows that no country is going to sacrifice economy for the environment and are convienatly making investment in africa and asia ahead of future mineral stock shortfall. Its too late for the environment, its about the survival of countries and its people in the coming decades
