7 mars 2009“Sharing climate change”
par Daniela, en direct du Bangladesh
Today the members of the group «180 Grad» had a so called sharing meeting with climate experts and government representatives. Many questions had been raised during the last week, many of them still had to be answered. Today’s meeting was an incredible exchange of knowledge, opinions and points of view. Not all questions might have been answered, and probably some never will be. But the progress that has been made in the last three hours on both sides, in understanding, learning und reflecting on current problems, amazed me.
The panel members addressed their doubts, queries, and questions without hesitation or false politeness. They really wanted to know what climate change in Bangladesh was about, were eager to find out “the truth”, to get more information, more input, and maybe therefore even more questions.
After a tough week, with many excursions, exhaustive hours of travelling, studying, listening and watching, the meeting fitted perfectly in this picture of an intense and demanding study trip. Yet the outcome was a million times worth it: Bangladesh, its (climate change related) problems and the population suffering from them are no longer statistics, nor a dot on the world map. They got faces, shared feelings and emotions, and have “all of a sudden” become people, like me and you.
After all - no matter whether you live in Luxemburg or in Bangladesh, the UK or Greenland - we are not that different from each other and share a common wish: to live a life worth living.
