8 Months ago the Rainbow Warrior was in Beirut to help in the oil spill recovery plans. At that time, the ship was documenting almost all the contaminated spots along the Mediterranean Sea off the Lebanese cost. Arek a 17 and a bit years old, a volunteer from the Lebanese office didn't make it to the ship due to age restrictions. Arek tonight turned 18 and we had a small party hosted on the rainbow warrior for him.

To Arek whom we remember did cry passionately 8 months ago for not being able to join the ship during the oil spill cleanup, To you Arek we say: "Man you are lucky to have your 18th birthday on the Rainbow".

Happy Birthday Arek and we wish you a life full of peace and love.

ps: we are waiting for you blog entry on this one...

Yeah, I remember that!! He cried and felt so “disappointed”! I remember the look on his face when told he cannot board the Rainbow.. In my attempt to cool him down, I joked and remarked that there will be more environmental injustice in Lebanon and the Rainbow will come back to fight, and he will get his chance to bored the Rainbow!!
Well, he did more than just board!

Arek is been one of the inspirations for me, his dedication to GP and changing the world (his own words) is of purity and optimism that is totally needed in today’s world.
Been the smart a** he is, he obviously figured out that we will be throwing him a small party (the cake delivery guy, gave us away when he shouted from deck!! HEEEEEY, I HAVE A CAKE TO BASMA BADRAN!!!!!) , however, he did not fail to give a personally and a touching speech on how proud and happy he is to be spending his 18th birthday on board a peace symbol, on board a belief, on board an ideology.
To Arek I say, happy birthday dear Arek… I know that GREAT things will come of you and we here in GP will be looking forward to spending many many more years in the company of your beautiful mind!

haha I remember this. I was onboard the Warrior in Beirut when Arek couldnt get on. Arek, Happy Birthday and I wish I was onboard this time as well so I could have been there to celebrate it with you and the crew. Take care mate, see you soon!
