great news!
Hi All,
Great news from the whale embassy!
After days of hints, today we received a news article written in a national Korean daily, stating that plans to build the whale meat factory had been dropped because of pressure from Greenpeace. The article went on to explain that the reason for this was that building the factory would not be in the ˜national interest" of South Korea, and would label South Korea as a pro-whaling nation. The government will not produce any written documentation proving that the whale meat factory has been abandoned, because it would show a loss of face. The evidence for this piece was written after confidential discussions between the journalist and the Director of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs in Ulsan.
Over 60 days of sleeping in this once hostile, polluted, dusty, grimy place appear to have paid off. We couldn't have hoped for a better result only days before the IWC.
Best,
Jim

hej !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wooooooooooww !!!!!!!!!!!
Is this really true??? That's automatically the first question of everyone, of course. It's gorgeous anyway.
(I would be glad to fail my exams for this outcome ;-)
Not to forget All the best to everyone of you at the Whale Embassy - especially for a final boost - it's a pleasure to read the Weblog anyway (with exception of Jodies health problems).

HOW INCREDIBLE!!! Congratulations! I am ecstatic at this accomplishment, but also relieved at knowing that Korea has not taken this step to endorse whaling. This is truly a result of everyone's dedication, passion and hard work...thank you!

Hi Choi,
Because Greenpeace doesn't have a Korean office, we are largely relying on volunteer translators who are all extremely busy staffing the Whale Embassy and helping our activists and IWC delegates. But don't worry, we are also working with KFEM (Korean Federation for Environmental Movement) and they are helping to spread the word amongst Koreans via their website (www.kfem.or.kr) and media work.
