![]() June 22, 2004 Geeks Love Trees, Too
Having not climbed 90 feet up a tree before, I was a bit scared. The sky was pitch black, and I couldn't see a thing except for the light emanating from headlamps up above. I could hear gentle voices as well, coaching me up the rope. Soon, I was one of them. Making this douglas fir my temporary home. Not only did the evening cure me from my fear of heights, but it also made me realize how much our old-growth forests need to be saved. Our forests are our refuge. The place where we go to feel connected once again to nature and to each other. Desecrating our forests is short-sighted and is stealing from future generations. Federal land management agencies like the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) should not be selling off the public lands of our great nation. It should preserve them. The BLM should not be attempting to make Greenpeace leave the Kelsey-Whisky timber sale area, it should be praising Greenpeace for recognizing the gravity of the situation. I want a big treehouse someday. 8^) Posted by: Martin DeVore at July 7, 2004 10:23 AMI too want to support you. I moved to California 5 weeks ago. Over the 4th of July weekend I visited Redwoods at Muir Woods and Giant Sequioas at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. What a treasure. The ancient trees are indescribable. I know they are irreplaceable in our millenium and maybe for eternity. I am trying to find some way to help. I know it matters. Tom Posted by: Tom Curtis at July 11, 2004 05:48 PMI love the trees but in my country, those are forget it, slowly, the big trees are in the way of extintion, losing the fight vs the industries. this happens in León, Guanajuato, Mexico Posted by: Julio Ramon at August 27, 2004 04:53 AMPost a
