Seeds of hope
The front line of our battle against GMOs takes place in Brazil, the only major non-GE soya exporter left in the world that still has large GE Free zones. In the past few years, illegal Monsanto GE seeds have been smuggled over the border to southern Brazil and Paraguay from Argentina where all soya is now transgenic.

Faced with widespread GE contamination in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, the Brazilian government last year temporarily approved planting of GE soya. Should Brazilian farmers go down the GE path then consumers across the world will find ever more of their food contaminated with GE.

Another important development is taking place in China, the world's largest importer of soya after the EU. GE soya planting is still banned in China and we are working hard to prevent imported GE soya polluting traditional Chinese soya varieties. Working with local farmers and consumers whether in China or Brazil to reject GE seeds and GE food is key to our success.
