Auchan Victory

Thanks to the hard work and activities by our Gene Detectives in Luxembourg, supermarket leader Auchan, has agreed to remove all products containing Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) from their shelves.

Auchun's management met with our GE campaigners this morning to discuss the issue. "We welcome the decision taken by the Auchan's management, they made the right choice," said Christopher Burman our GE campaigner in Luxembourg.

"Following today's announcement the whole of Luxembourg is free from all GE labelled products. The industry has listened to us and to the consumers' and respected our wishes for GE-free food."

In France, Auchan also intends to withdraw GE products on sale in France over the next weeks. The products brands 'Classic Foods' and 'Newman's Own' were to date the only genetically modified products discovered by our Gene Detecives who have also been sending hundreds of letters to Auchan both in France and Luxembourg.

The products that have been removed from Auchan's shelves were sauces and popcorn distributed by French company SDV. "The ball is now in SDV's court, it is their turn to make the right choice and to get its American suppliers to supply GE-free," added Christopher Burman.

Last Monday, a dozen activists emptied the shelves in an Auchan supermarket of all products known to contain GMOs and packed them in postal parcels to return them to 'Classic Foods' and 'Newman's Own' in the US.
