May 11, 2004Slovakia says no to Tesco
Greenpeace activists today protested in front of the Tesco supermarket in downtown Bratislava, Slovakia against the Supermarket giant's double standards with regard selling GE food. Currently Tesco guarantees its customers in the UK and Hungary that its own-brand product ranges do not contain GE ingredients. But is refusing to apply this guarantee in Slovakia and Czech republic despite the fact that it is one of the largest food retailers in Slovakia and therefore has a responsibility to these customers as well. Other major super supermarket chains on the other hand have guaranteed that they will not sell products that contain GMOs including in their own brands. This morning also launched our information tour throughout Slovakia to inform the public about the dangers of GMOs and engage them in action against Tesco and other supermarkets that sell GE food.
