May 10, 2004'Cowcar' starts tour of Germany
The 'Cowcar' is beginning a countrywide information tour of Germany. After this morning's protest the 'Cowcar', with its 'Moo against Mueller' slogan drove to Dresden. Over the next couple of months, the 'Cowcar' will visit many cities for street festivals, events and supermarkets to record consumers concerns. With the help of the car we will raise public awareness and build pressure to help our demands that from Mueller to guarantee that the dairy cows used to produce the milk for their various products will no longer be fed on GE feed. "Consumers can now say clearly to Mueller that genetic engineering in food is unnecessary", says Ulrike Brendel, our GE campaigner from Germany. "Whether the food is for animals or humans, consumers do not want genetically engineered crops in what they eat. The message is clear and simple 'No to GMOs'!"
The 'Cowcar' information tour will go directly through the areas that cultivate GE corn in Germany. Currently 300 hectares of GE corn are to be cultivated commercially at 29 secret locations. Since these are not trial sites, it is possible that this corn could end up as animal feed. With dairies such as Mueller, who do not stipulate that their contracted farmers only use GE free feed, GE corn could end up in the cows' trough. Get Involved! - Consumers do not have to wait for the 'Cowcar', in order to become active: Call our German Hotline (040-3899 8080) to voice your opinion against GE feed used in the production of milk.
