The Global Wind is known to carry about 30,000 tons of GE soya from the company, Bunge in Argentina, and was supposed to load another 10,000 tons of conventional soya from Bunge subsidiary Fertimport, in the GE free port of Paranagua. However thanks to our rapid reaction the ship failed again to load. Today we succeeded to keep Paranás soya free from deliberate GE contamination, said Mariana Paoli. But Bunge has not given any commitment yet to stop such deliberate contamination in the future. Paraná prohibits the growing and export of GE soya, and has imposed strict control to enforce this ban in its territory. Paraná is well-equipped to serve the increasing market demand for non-GE supply in light of growing consumer rejection and in light of new and stricter GE labelling regulation in major markets such as the enlarged European Union.
