April 28, 2004Consumer's take Carrefour
More of our activists today demonstrated against GE foods by labelling products containing GE ingredients, at a Carrefour supermarket, in Curitiba, Brazil. Our 'gene detectives' re-organised the supermarket shelves, separating foods that may contain GE ingredients from products that do not contain GE ingredients. The dodgy products were marked with tape and labels warning the consumers about the true nature of food.
In response to Greenpeace demands Carrefour has emphasised their support of a non-GE policy. Following the action, Carrefour Headquarters in Sao Paulo committed to asking their food suppliers about any presence of GE ingredients in their products. The retailing giant also confirmed that it will send back to the food labelled by Greenpeace.
