Our question: GE or not GE?

Gene detectives have been carrying out stop and search activities on six lorries carrying soyameal from the Mannheim oil mill in Germany today to check whether the status of the soyameal and its paperwork are the same. It seems that the oil mill operator, Bunge Deutschland GmbH, is currently processing only GE-free soya but is labelling most of the soyameal as being genetically engineered.

Environment Council blocks GMO approval
The European Commission has failed to get EU member state approval for Monsanto's application to import NK603 maize into Europe, however the Commission could still disregard the lack of support from Member States and approve the application, just as it did with Syngenta's Bt11 canned sweet corn one month ago.

European consumers unite against GE
Across Europe our volunteers and campaigners are keeping up the pressure on the GE food industry, letting them know that consumers don't want GE anywhere near their dinner tables. Today volunteers, representing citizens from the 25 nations of the European Union, made their feelings known by hanging banners in front of important monuments in Portugal, Poland, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Hungary, Luxembourg, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Rainbow Warrior Captain charges dismissed
The charges against Rainbow Warrior captain, Derek Nicholls, brought against him following an action carried out during the GE campaign in Australia were dismissed by the magistrate due to Nicholls good character.

Argentine reserve sold
Despite Greenpeace's demonstration outside the 'Salta House' in Buenos Aires earlier this week, the governor of Salta Juan Carlos Romero went ahead with his plans and sold part of the Pizarro Reserve, to make way for more GE soya expansion.

Greenpeace confronts CEC on Maize

Earlier this week a meeting of the NAFTA Commission for Environmental
Cooperation (CEC) took place in Puebla, Mexico. Unfortunately, the ministers did not include on their agenda a discussion of the issue of contaminated maize in the state of Oaxaca.
