Stealing Signs and Twisting Arms
April 25, 2005
Sunday evening - we're packing up the equipment container. A member of the so-called "Anti-Terror Info Center" steals a package of 25 demarcation signs (the ones we're putting on trees, to demarcate forests important to reindeer herding). Petteri tries to talk him out of it, he is pushed away. Dave is videoing the event. Another one of the "Anti-Terror" guys swings a demarcation sign at his face. When he raises his hand to block the blow, his arm is grabbed and twisted behind him. He manages to get free, as Ric comes to his aid, relieving the guy of the demarcation sign, before getting also getting mauled.

Right - we've been talking about forests for weeks now. But what does an old reindeer forest look like? And what's left behind if it's destroyed for logging? Matti Snellman has put together two 360° Quicktime VR movies. When you open these up in Quicktime, drag the screen with your mouse, to look around.
Bear in mind - the trees in the 'intact' version are quite old - one hundred years, and more. Trees grow very, very slowly up here, north of the Arctic Circle.
