Saami Council takes action

On August 30th, the Saami Council announced that it is asking StoraEnso to stop buying timber logged from reindeer grazing forests. The Saami Council is shocked by the decision of Metsähallitus to start logging again in the reindeer grazing areas, which are essential to the Saami reindeer herding cooperatives. If the logging continues, at the same rate it has been for the last few decades, the present generation will be the last one to herd reindeer in the traditional way of the Saami, says the Saami Council.
