I'm 31 years-old, and something of an all-rounder. I've worked mostly with forestry, and was born in a pulp-district Äänekoski in the middle of Finland. I've lived mostly in Savo (east-Finland), but now, while I have an address in Helsinki, I've spent most of this year in Inari.

My history with forests starts with the Talaskangas demonstrations in north Savo, in 1987. After that, I worked for Metsähallitus in Kainuu charting State forests during 1992 and 1993. When I saw the absurd use of State forests - my choice was made. That's why I've spent so much of my time working on the use of state forests.

After I had heard hunters and other nature-users in Kainuu talking about harsh methods of Metsähallitus in handling the capercaillies habitats and Metsähallitus in the forests, I became interested in the company's way of working everywhere. It didn't take long for me to hear about the bad experiences of trying to herd reindeer, and bad stories about Metsähallitus' activities.

I have always had a strong feeling of justice and good sense towards the use of forests. It must be possible to use the forests not only for industry, but also for hunting, hiking (and camping), taking wood for heating, for reindeer herding, and other sustainable uses.
