Meet Iréne: Web Editor

Irene: Web EditorName: Iréne

From: Sweden/Finland

Job: Web Editor

What are you doing so far north?
Good question - why oh why do I always end up where there is ice and snow? Am helping out setting up the Finnish weblog amongst other things.

Have you been out in the woods before? What happened?
I did my first forest action at the age of 7. The forest was my playground; it was just there all around. We had our favourite area, where we used to play, set up little shelters and pretend we were pioneers in an unknown country (with home cooked food at a comfortable distance of course). One day big foresting machines came – at that age they are truly terrifying. Although scared we tried to stop the logging by standing in front of them, my friend and I. Eventually the men inside the machines managed to scare us away, and the next day all “our” trees were gone. See – that’s the sort of trauma that creates a Greenpeace activist!

What animal do you most resemble?
A badger maybe? I have both bad eyesight and an awkward walk.

What's the most important survival item?
That would be my old “beanie” - had it for 18 years and it is a constant reminder to stay away from knitting
