Meet Dave: Web Editor

Dave: Click to enter. Photo: Greenpeace/Anisha Binckmann
Name: Dave

From: Ireland

Job: Web editor

What are you doing so far north?
I'm organising the weblog - it's published for a global audience, who want to know what's happening up here, and how Greenpeace activists live and work. I've mostly worked as a web editor on ocean campaigns, so this quite different for me.

Have you been out in the woods before? What happened?
Not in these woods, no. But I've hiked or mountainbiked through forests around the world, and grew up in a rural woodland area in Ireland, surrounded by wildlife. I even did some logging when I was a kid - we only ever took what we needed though - we left the integrity and nature of the place intact. The scale of the forests around Inari is amazing, I have to say - but it's easy to see which bits are right for reindeer, and which areas are not.

What animal do you most resemble?
I have to say Otter - I always do. Mudslides, multiple beach homes, seafood meals. What's not to like?

What's the most important survival item?
Leatherman, books, ipod, sense of humour! Ok, so that's four...

Arctic Finland: Too cold, a bit cold, warm, or too damned warm?
Last week, I found it a little chilly. Now I find it quite normal. In Ireland there's a different kind of cold - it might not be freezing, but if the air is damp it sort of 'gets into your bones'. Up here it's just sharp, clean coldness, which is fine by me!

Hi Dave,
What a beautiful land you are in. Keep up the great dialogue and fun stories.
P.S. If you can't find your fluffy bunny slippers - Rico has most likely taken them..
Regards Mikey..

Hey Dave,

It's good to know that the Irish weather can prepare you for foreign climates! Best of luck with your quest! Yet another challenge to add to your ever-growing list!

Regards,

Kathy (Crinion)

Hi Dave
Well done on the Authors Update. I was amazed to see that Mr Vatenen was such an old hippy after all! All you need is love according to Ari. Ahh! Maybe he was just having a big come-down the otherday.
