Forests: Before & After Total Destruction

Right - we've been talking about forests for weeks now. But what does an old reindeer forest look like? And what's left behind if it's destroyed for logging? Matti Snellman has put together two 360° Quicktime VR movies. When you open these up in Quicktime, drag the screen with your mouse, to look around.

Bear in mind - the trees in the 'intact' version are quite old - one hundred years, and more. Trees grow very, very slowly up here, north of the Arctic Circle.

I see, the evil loggers have destroyed even the big rocks of the first picture.

The clear cut forest is clearly better. More space!
