Anne, an Australian activist who has been arrested sends an update...
Anne is a trooper. Travelling here from Adelaide, Australia to participate in this action, she went into the building this morning, dressed up as a profit-driven oil baron (junior) to serve the management with charges for climate crimes. You can read more about Anne here.
She was arrested and placed in a squad car. I think it takes some guts to get arrested in Texas. It takes even more guts to do what she did next. She worked her hands free and used her cell phone to call out and warn us that the SWAT team - or reasonable swarthy-looking facsimile - was gearing up with tear gas and riot gear. We haven't heard any more updates regarding the uber-cops, so we are not sure if they tear-gassed ExxonMobil headquarters.
Posted by at May 27, 2003 10:30 AM | TrackBackThe latest news from the irony department , a gasous cloud surrounded the gang today, turns out the ominous green monstrosity was the result of too many people who eat vegi-Bites, congregated into too small of a location, at the same time, for too long...
Exxon personnel are filing abuse charges claiming "assault with intent to disorient" by using this...weapon...
Posted by: Live in Irving at May 27, 2003 11:33 AMhey morons...how did you get to exxon?? driving trucks and riding in limos that burn fossil fuels? if you were really committed to your cause, you would be living the ahmish lifestyle and we'd never hear from or see you.
Posted by: at May 27, 2003 03:56 PMYeah, and if you know enough you can follow the following chain:
1) You have lights on
2) You have a computer on
3) you have an internet connection on
4) Relize what these run on (electricity)
So there for, by typing that message, you also burnt fossil fuels. (assuming that you aren't using 100% clean energy).
Also, think of the comparison and ratio of their vehicals compared to those of the Police, or Exxon.
Think of the chenicals and energy used to make all of the police equipment!
Your argument is full of contridictions, and to be honest, should be disregarded.

i must admit though, i do need to stop cussing so much, it detracks from my arguements
Posted by: mat at May 31, 2003 05:02 PMHey, nice long argument. You raised some good points. Greenpeace chooses to make their points differently than a lawyer, and that is where their publicity comes from. I did a project on greenpeace a few years ago, and that is one of their chariteristecs (sorry about the spelling).
I just got back from a conference, and we had a workshop on your impact on the world. The thing is whatever choices you make, you have some impact. You can't avoid it. People will die from GMOs, and people will die without GMOs. Noone can put a price on a human life, or try to justify death. And frankly, I don't see how you can avoid killing people in this situation.
Personaly, I am against GMOs. But, I digress.
Greenpeace has their views known by their protesting, as it's the basis of their foundation. I am a fair bit younger then you, and I can grasp this as well as you. If you are looking for a peace ful group, talk to WWF. Greenpeace shouldn't be mislead to think they should try to be a subtle org.
Greenpeace can't play god. They simply aren't. There are many people who see things the same way as them, and thats fine. They can't pretend that they are the foundation above all others. But, where do you draw the line?
But in the end, I do feel that you will be better respected if you conduct yourself in a civilized maner, so the idea to stop cussing is a good one.
Kyoto Guy
And I wish that the person that started my rally would say who they were. No more of the hiding behiend the blankness. It's too simple to trace.
