Phil - Outboard Mechanic

Crew: Phil
Name: Phil
Nationality: Canadian
Position: Outboard Mechanic

What is it that you do on a ship that you don't do on land?
Have excellent adventures, travel to new countries and work with great people.

What's the one thing you wish you had with you from home? Or what do you miss most right now?
A big bed with someone I love

Do you know what's the date today?
No

How often do you look at the time?
Twice a day (meal times)

One word or phrase you use a lot on the ship.
“Thank you Marco” (our cook)

How long have you been sailing with Greenpeace? When, what and how was the first time?
IÂ’ve been sailing on the ships for 13 years, since October 93. I was first working as a fundraiser in the office in Canada. My first trip was on the MV Greenpeace, it was in the Sea of Japan, on nuclear waste. I had worked before on a merchant navy, it wasnÂ’t what I wanted, no sense of group or adventure. But on the Greenpeace ships, it is all different. ItÂ’s a fantastic positive environment. I canÂ’t imagine doing something else. I have been a deckhand, bosun, engineer, and now boat mechanic.
