Gianluca - Radio Operator

Crew: Gianluca
Name: Gianluca
Nationality: Italian
Position: Radio Operator

What is it that you do on a ship that you don't do on land?
Wake up at 7:30

What's the one thing you wish you had with you from home? Or what do you miss most right now?
My cat

Do you know what's the date today?
ItÂ’s July 28, because I type it everyday

How often do you look at the time?
Not on the ship. I usually watch the time to go home, but now IÂ’m always home.

One word or phrase you use a lot on the ship.
It’s not a phrase I say but rather I hear all the time: “Did you download?”

How long have you been sailing with Greenpeace? When, what and how was the first time?
IÂ’ve been sailing as a Radio Operator for the past 6 years. In 97, I was working in the office as a fundraiser. Greenpeace was looking for a Radio Operator on their webpage, I replied, and we found each other ;) Half an hour later I got a phone call from Amsterdam, one week later I was in Amsterdam, and one month later I was on board of the Artic Sunrise, on the toxic tour in the Americas. Since I have not stopped. If I do something else, I would only work with NGOs; achieve things with low budget. I like the challenge.
