Emma - Deckhand

Crew: Emma
Name: Emma
Nationality: Australian
Position: Deckhand

What is it that you do on a ship that you don't do on land?
Working with power tools

What's the one thing you wish you had with you from home? Or what do you miss most right now?
I miss the country, the beach!

Do you know what's the date today?
No

How often do you look at the time?
Depends on whatÂ’s happening.

One word or phrase you use a lot on the ship.
“I’m tired!”

How long have you been sailing with Greenpeace? When, what and how was the first time?
Four years sailing now. My first trip was in 2000, but I had a long gap in between, I didnÂ’t sail for 2 years. I was working as a fundraiser for 3 years and a half with the local group in Brisbane, and they needed an assistant cook on the ship. Then I became a fulltime deckhand.
