Beate - Second Engineer

Crew: Elaine
Name: Beate
Nationality: German
Position: Second Engineer

What is it that you do on a ship that you don't do on land?
Getting myself greasy and oily, I avoid that on land very much.

What's the one thing you wish you had with you from home? Or what do you miss most right now?
Friends

Do you know what's the date today?
I donÂ’t know!

How often do you look at the time?
I have the rhythm in me, get up, work, eat, restÂ… itÂ’s automatic, I feel the time, donÂ’t need a watch!

One word or phrase you use a lot on the ship.
“Oh shit!” when things go wrong

How long have you been sailing with Greenpeace? When, what and how was the first time?
Been sailing since 2000, regularly more or less. My first time was on Beluga. We were sailing by Inverness campaigning on some oil wrecks.

“I really like to be here, working with people from different places of the world. I enjoy it very much. Working all together on one issue.”
