Nestle not-fans continuing creative media onslaught
Over a week since the campaign launched and still Nestle not-fans are going strong on facebook and Youtube.com with creative new media protests! We have seen more and more of your profile pictures using the Nestle logo going up, and even some interesting video-edits of Nestle commercials. Check out this latest creation uploaded by Pierreundco on Youbtube:
A Nestle commercial edited with clips from our compaign video.
Nestle suffering social media rampage as company stocks falls

Some of the profile pictures people are using on facebook.
Wow, in the last 12 hours "not-fans" on Nestle's facebook page responding to their use of palm oil from deforestation have been really busy! Nestle's facebook admin is now posting less and less, no doubt wearied by the onslaught of criticism and calls for them to clean up their supply chain. In particular, the company has referred a number of times to its palm oil policy which states the company intends to use all sustainable palm oil by 2015. But unfortunately, as we all know, 2015 will be too late. Many of the "not-fans" have pointed out what five years of business as usual translates into in terms of rainforest destruction, for orangutans, people and the climate.
Surely by now Nestle's PR team must know it is not charm people want - but real action to stop deforestation. Well, if the world of social media is not making it clear enough for them, maybe the stock market might: see how Nestle's stock has fallen in the last day. Another five years of deforestation? How about another five years of falling stock? Come on Nestle, the time is now.
Nestle "not-fans" giving the company hell on Facebook

Not-fans tell Nestle what they think on the company's facebook page.
Nestle's facebook page has been over run in the last 24 hours with criticism from angry "not-fans" calling on the company to clean up its supply chain and stop contributing to deforestation.
When the company posted "Repeat: we welcome your comments, but please don't post using an altered version of any of our logos as your profile pic - they will be deleted" one not-fan responded with (Paul Griffin): "Hmm, this comment is a bit "Big Brotherish" isn't it? I'll have whatever I like as my logo pic thanks! And if it's altered, it's no longer your logo is it!" while adding that Nestle might not "win friends in the social media space with this sort of dogmatic approach" and that rather social media should be about "embracing your market, engaging and having a conversation rather than preaching!" Nestle Admin responded to this somewhat passively aggressively with "Thanks for the lesson in manners. Consider yourself embraced. But it's our page, we set the rules, it was ever thus" !
Nestle might have a problem with you using their altered logo as your Facebook profile pic, but surely, surely no one could have a problem with someone having an adorable orangutan as their profile pic? Or a photo of Indonesia's gorgeous rainforests? You would have to be nuts to have a problem with that - am I right? There are a few images here that would make lovely Facebook or other profile pictures. Or make your own - many of you commenting on the Nestle Facebook page have come up with some great ones already!
Nestle Admin does insist the company "welcome[s] debate" and "from any opinion" because "it helps us to know what people think and feel." The burning question is, now it's pretty clear how people feel, what are they going to do about it?
See more about how people "think and feel" about rainforest destruction for palm oil by visiting the page here - "fan" them and you can leave your own message.
On Nestle's facebook page: "I'm not a fan by the way, I just want to say..."
Nestle has been taking some flack on its facebook group - become a "fan" there and you can add your comments to the debate. Like Rosanna Pimm: "not a fan, just want you to STOP your contribution to forest destruction and cut the Sinar Mas group from its palm oil supply chain completely"; and Gerri Mills: "I am not a fan! stop using palm oil, start caring for people, animals and the environment"; or Katherine Russell: "I too WAS a fan, now I wouldn't touch a nestle product if there was nothing else to eat" and David Inns "No more milo for me." Well said everybody!
Nestle has responded to the complaints saying "we're concerned too. We care about the serious environmental threat to rainforests in South East Asia and as we said yesterday, we have replaced the Indonesian company Sinar Mas as a supplier of palm oil for further shipments."
But so far this is nothing new. Actually, Nestle still sources palm oil from other companies - which buy from Sinar Mas. There's no quick-PR-fix to get out of this one; Nestle is going to have to really clean up its supply chain.
Ernest Simons photographers document the action
A local photographers has been down to the Croydon, UK office of Nestle to document the Greenpeace action there, taking photos and interviewing the activists. Nice work guys!
Nestle staff chat about the Greenpeace Kit Kat video
This one is hilarious - uploaded yesterday by the onlinejournalist YouTube account:
Staff at Nestle discuss how they will react to the viral video produced by Greenpeace criticising their palm oil sourcing strategy...
Supporters play on Nestle's attempt to censor
Yes, these days with social media working like it does, attempts like this at censorship don't work very well. Nice addition to the Youtube collection here:

Comments
I posted the video on my Facebook page (and got one response from a friend telling me he was too busy to take action because he was eating a KitKat). I signed and emailed the letter. I also showed the video to my children and explained the situation.

Shouldn't you also be giving Hershey's a severe dressing-down? I mean, don't they also clear rainforests? Plus they sell the Kit Kat bar also, and Wikipedia says that the recipe in Canada and the U.S.A. is also tainted with palm oil. It doesn't say that there's palm oil in the UK recipe, but that seems to be a typo. This is your chance to get back at Nestle AND Hershey's!Don't you remember that hershey's isn't using biodegradable wrappers in the Kisses? Get back at both of them! Give both Nestle AND Hersheys black eyes! AVENGE THE PLANET, NOT CHOCOLATE!

I am boycotting their products. I did look at tall the brands they make and only about 2 of them I use. I do not use bottled water or their cereals. My kids know what this company is like and kids need to be educated for their future on companies like Nestle. The once humble smartie is drwoned in all the sea of corruption, destruction and profit. First of what I know was the Baby milk scandal, this and what next. Sorry but I do not want anything to do with this company.
I have told Nestle fb page i am boycotting their products and have also blogged your kitkat video on myspace spreading the word there. Thanks for being around Greenpeace. x

Hi, a new group has just been created on facebook: Can this orang-utan get more fans than Nestle?
Let us show Nestle that they are loosing so many customers because of their policy and lack of care for the environment.
Join it and spread the word!

Does somebody knows exactly how is the share of Nestlé in the global food industry? 2%!Now imagine, the brand Kit Kat, how does it represents in the total of the food industry? For sure,Nestlé as a big actor, has to be commited to provide food that does not impact the environment. However, such campaign against one only company is a campaign that only affects one company and not the real problem... I forgot... it's as well a good campaign for Greenpeace

I've had facebook friends whom I'd never have thought would re-post a campaign like this post this campaign. And all because of Nestle's bad PR. The sooner Nestle realises this isnt about PR, it's about taking real action, the better.

That's it! I think I'm going to eat vegetables and fruits for the rest of my life! I mean I don't want to buy a chocolate bar and then find out that an animal or the environment may have to suffer because of it!

in america kit kat is owned by hersheys, is hersheys doing the same thing?
The Hershey’s Kit Kat does include palm oil, but our new report does not investigate the company’s palm oil sourcing. Greenpeace is not against palm oil or the palm oil industry. We are against the destruction of rainforests and the massive climate pollution that has resulted from the reckless expansion of palm plantations. We believe all companies should stop buying and trading palm oil from suppliers linked to forest and peatland destruction, and that includes Hershey's if in fact their palm oil is not coming from sustainable sources.
Thanks for your question!

I wrote to the Nestle management and got a prompt response from the head of corporate relations saying that Nestle is "committed to using only certified sustainable palm oil which will be available by 2015". It does seem like the worldwide consumer reaction has forced Nestle to review its policy. So great show, guys, Greenpeace, and keep up the pressure and make sure that Nestle keeps to its promise!
Thanks for making the phone call - we will need your help to keep up the pressure on Nestle and keep sending them the message that they need to cut palm oil from destroyed forests and peatlands out of their supply chain now, not later!

A lot of people in SA have stopped buying Nestle products and in our family we refuse to by any Nestle products. This was brought on with Magabe and his connections with Nestle, until they come clean no more nestle products.
Posted by: Raymond Bruce Else | March 26, 2010 11:16 AM
Nestle just thinks about short term benefits, and its policy is very selfish.
I wont buy any product from Nestle anymore, and my family will do the same.
Remember Nestle does not care about Nature.

I sent Nestle an email about their palm oil suppliers and their committment to change to sustainable sources and I got this reply:
Dear Niki
Thank you for your recent email regarding palm oil. May we first apologise for the delay in our reply.
We can assure you that Nestlé UK does not buy palm oil from the Sinar Mas Group for any of our products, including Kit Kat.
We do purchase palm oil from Cargill and we have sought assurances from them about their supply chain as a percentage of their supply is from Sinar Mas. Cargill has informed us that Sinar Mas needs to answer Greenpeace’s allegations by the end of April and they have indicated that they will delist Sinar Mas if they do not take corrective action by then.
Nestlé recently undertook a detailed review of its supply chain to establish the source of its palm oil supplies and we have made a commitment to using only "Certified Sustainable Palm Oil" by 2015, when sufficient quantities should be available.
As an important step on that journey, a number of Nestlé markets, including Nestlé UK, have already purchased Green Palm certificates, the certificate trading programme designed to help suppliers tackle the environmental and social problems created by the production of palm oil.
Thank you again for taking the trouble to contact us. We are grateful for the interest you have shown in our company.
Yours sincerely

I added the following lines to my mail and plan to follow up on the promise. The only way to beat them is in their Balance sheet.
Because of this my 4 person family will be taking action and boycotting ALL Nestles products until such time as you as a corporation clearly demonstrate a far more responsible attitude toward the welfare of this planet and the wildlife that inhabits it.
I cannot sanction such ruthless and uncaring behaviour from a company that manufactures so many products that I can actually live without..........We will simply live without them, and use this as a sobering lesson to teach our children to think behind the labeling and propaganda of corporations such as Nestle.

Response from Nestlé Portugal:
Exmº (a) Senhor/Senhora
Agradecendo o seu e-mail, informamos que sobre a questão colocada a posição da Nestlé Portugal, S.A. é a seguinte:
