Australia and Canada give in to pressure!
Posted by Australian Stephen Campbell at the Bali International Conference Centre
It's been a tough two weeks pushing the new Australian government to finally accept some clear numbers for action on climate change. At the beggining of the week the Prime Minister said that there was no way that Australia would sign up to the negotiating "range" (of 25-40% by 2020 compared to 1990 levels), but here they are, agreeing to it! We have pushed and pushed, and called out for the government to take a principled position, and now it seems like we will get our wishes. We still have a long way to go to start reducing emissions in Australia, but now we have something to shoot for. We couldn't be more happy!

You make Austrlia sound like a criminal. i would like to know what country you live in and see what you have done. Australia has a low emmission rate alreadyand just because our Government did'nt agree at first it does not meen you can keep hounding them on and on. Do you not relise that Australia isin a crises already? it's called drought. its particularily tough for us particularly us Queensland residents who are restricted beyond all compare with our water usage. if you really want to help the world, start focussing on helping the people ASWELL as the animals. negotiate with the people don't just winge and cry. plenty of us Australians help out heeps. why don't you hound the USA for a while.

Oh yeah, Greenpeace would NEVER criticize the US government. Gosh no.
But while on the subject, if you want Australia to be a world leader on climate change you should make sure Rudd lives up to promises.
