Victory: Toxic death ship detained!

The Estonian Attorney General has decided to detain the Probo Koala, and launch an investigation. We've ended our blockade. The Estonian authorities can take it from here.

Read the Associated Press story.

From our just issued press release:

"Greenpeace is pleased that the Estonian Authorities are now taking action and believes that this will now spark a full international inquiry into all of the companies and regulatory agencies which failed to stop the dumping of deadly toxic waste in the Ivory Coast. Only through such an investigation can the guilty be brought to justice and the lessons learned in order to prevent this from happening again."

On the basis of preliminary results it would appear that contamination found on the Probo Koala by the Estonian Environment Ministry is similar to that which poisoned the Ivory Coast.

Congratulations on a job well done! I think that you have, apart from achieving the immediate good result of stopping the toxic ship from moving on, also opened a lot of people's eyes here in Estonia! This may well have a healthy influence on environmental debate here in general. Thank you!

Congratulations to all on land and sea and many thanks from the people of Abidjan

Thanks and congratulations to the Greenpeace team who worked day and night to give voice to the voiceless, meaning the Ivorian population who is currently paying for the incompetence, corrupted and criminal minds of those Ivorian officials who will sell their souls for a few millions. Being an Ivorian national, my only hope is that we get to the bottom of this wicked and horrific act so that the guilty parts, the corrupts and the corruptors, may they be Ivorians or Europeans, pay for this.Thanks.

Good Work, I live here in Estonia (and even quite near to Paldiski), and I am glad that this ship is stopped and investigation starts, if it dropped the toxic waste and caused deaths and illness at Ivory Coast then I am very glad for it.
Good job!

Congratulations to all the members of this team who had done a lot for defending the Ivorian peoples against this crime.
But I think that the justice would be done after punishment of the responsibals
Hoping that it be a warning to such practices a that would nor be repeated anymore.
