Job on board:
Press officer

My name is Martin and I am, mainly, the press officer on board this ship for this campaign. This is my 6th trip with one of our ships in the last three years so I am getting quite used to sailing by now. The fantastic crews, all the places we go and people we meet on our way together with the goals we achieve makes this job quite fulfilling. Never boring, always hectic and diverse. I do not want to trade this job for anything!

I am usually working at our small and busy Oslo office and this trip up here in the Barents is more or less organized by us. There are some very important political processes nearing their end (like the Joint Management Plan) and we really want to influence on their outcome. When you look at St. Louis these days it is very hard to say that nature doesn´t have a voice, but for some reason a lot of people tend not to understand even when nature screams at you.

Part of our job is to give this fragile planet a voice and help people understand what is going on out here. The Barents Sea, one of the last relatively clean oceans, are under immediate threat from oil exploration and lack of readiness in case of an oil spill from one of the tankers that passes the North Cape every day. I am very happy to be here and I really hope that I will be able to make people and politicians listen.
