Threats

Increased oil tanker traffic and lack of emergency plans, over-fishing, factory fishing and bottom trawling and the pressure for access to the area from oil companies - these are the main threats to the Lofoten and Barents Sea areas.

Increased oil tanker traffic and lack of emergency plans
Greenpeace/Christan Åslund 2003Lofoten and the rest of the northern Norwegian coastline are under increasing threats from passing oil tankers transporting oil from Russia to Europe and the USA.
