The corridors of power at the WTO

New text! New text! The buzz goes around the media centre… and guess who’s at the centre of it all – Greenpeace is first to get its hands on the newly revised text of the Declaration and it is in demand! (It's not on the WTO website at the time of posting this, but you could check here!)

Journalists crowd around the photocopying machine as we roll out copy after copy; confusion reigns supreme as I try to save paper at this crucial moment, and attempt double-sided photocopying. Somehow, despite (or because of!) these hi-tech photocopiers, I end up handing out double-sided copies of all the odd pages of the text! I wasn’t too popular right then, I assure you!

20 minutes later, we’re handing out the Greenpeace response to this text – we call it ‘Peanuts and Timetables’
and hand out what seems like hundreds of copies.

Meanwhile, it’s easy to see what it’s come to – last mile negotiations, including in the corridors!

I catch sight of the Indian minister in quick confabulation with the Brazilian minister, just before they head in to the G20 press conference.

Wonder what it will all come to in the end. Watch this space for more.
