Anniversaries, announcements and denials

Friday was a busy day here in the office with many actions around the world to mark 20 years since the Bhopal disaster and pressure Dow chemical to clean up their mess. But the day took a bizarre twist with the sudden announcement by Dow on BBC world news that they had a sudden epiphany and would take "full responsibility" for the disaster.

The announcement turned out to be work of the most excellent yesmen group who specialise in representing big business with a little more honesty and integrity than normal. With telling uncharacteristic corporate honesty the Dow-Bhopal-Yesmen tango started two years ago with the Dowethics.com site.

The full story is retold on the yesmen site and is required reading for anyone interested in twisting corporate greenwash and the left coaster offers a good summary of the media coverage, pointing out that lots of news outlets focussed on bashing the unfortuate BBC rather than how Dow and Union Carbide have escaped justice in the Bhopal case for 20 years.
