Austria invades Kalifornia via Enron

A couple of us ICTer's on the 4th floor were chuckling yesterday about Ahnold. Fortunately, it's gonna be Hasta La Vista to The Governator (sooner or later) thanks to Greg Palast. After all, there were at least Fifty Reasons Not to Vote for Arnold .

Comments

What's pretty ironic is that the recall provision was put into place to serve as essentially a citizens' impeachment tool, to be used against public officials accused of corruption or criminal wrongdoing. Yet Californians have used it to recall a governor who has been accused of no such thing and replace him with a man who may be guilty of criminal wrongdoing. Go figure.

Is Palast encouraging people to recall Arnold?

Dear Laura in DC,

Yes. Things can be pretty ironic. But lets not forget, a less than mediocre actor got elected to President (or should I say CEO) in the United States of Amnesia... TWICE !!!

With regards to your first comment, I read recently read in this extensive article:

RECALL REDUX
http://www.alternet.org/story.html?StoryID=16957

"
... The recall (along with the initiative) was originally adopted in California in 1911, sponsored by California's Progressive movement, to give ordinary citizens a stronger voice in a government dominated by big business – particularly the Southern Pacific RR – and urban political machines – particularly in San Francisco...
"

Fair enough, who could argue against that. Sounds good.

But I also read here:

The Day of the Locust
http://www.nationinstitute.org/tomdispatch/index.mhtml?pid=1001

"
... The hardcore ideologues of zero government and McKinley-era capitalism are trumpeting the recall as a new populist revolution in the spirit of Howard Jarvis's Proposition 13 in 1978. They echo local Republican claims that a venal Democratic governor, in league with big unions and the welfare classes, was turning off the lights of free enterprise and driving the hardworking middle classes to Arizona with huge, unfair tax increases...
"

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that this recall will be the start of a rather abusive trend.

Finally, I don't really know if Palast is encouraging people to recall Arnold. You can ask him at:

CONTACT GREG PALAST

Ahnold will get what's coming to him though. Sooner or later. It's probably just a matter of time before:

California Reamin':
California and the Power Pirates

goes mainstream...

Ciao,
