Hollywood and Greenpeace

Just read that the latest piece of fluff from Sandra Bullock, "Two Week's Notice" features a never-seen boyfriend of the Jersey Girl -- he appears only as the voice on the other end of a phone. He's never present because he's off on a "mission with Greenpeace." I know more than a few partners of GP staff, male and female, who know that script all too well.

Greenpeace references I know of in movies:

"Sneakers," where Robert Redford out-hacks the feds and transfers all the Pentagon's money to Greenpeace and Amnesty International.

"Live Nude Girls" where a Greenpeace canvassers knocks on the door and
collects more than a donation. (Whoever wrote that script almost certainly canvassed for Greenpeace: the guy's rap at the door was perfect, the question as the check is being written -- "is that one word or two" is familiar to everybody who has ever set foot in a devo to try to make quota and found it to be volvo-challenged astro turf -- heh heh, and if you understand that sentence, you've been there too.)

"Armageddeon" where Bruce Willis hits golf balls off an oil rig at a boatload of long-haired Greenpeace hippy protestors. (Trite)

"Fish called Wanda" in which Kevin Kleine demonstrates his finesse with a blade (and horrifies Michael Palin's animal rights sensibilities) by throwing his knife across the room into a Greenpeace poster, right between the eyes of a harp seal.

"Jurrassic Park: Lost World" in which the short-lived videographer says he likes shooting for Greenpeace cause it's good for 'getting women.' (Doesn't he get smushed by a feminist dinosaur?)

Other refs?

Comments

heehee...we actually watched "two weeks notice" when it came out here, and we all laughed ourselves silly over the never-seen boyfriend. :)

40 Days and 40 Nights - an officemate of Josh Hartnett writes a check donation to Greenpeace.

I am Sam - Sam's friend mentions his cousin works for Greenpeace and then goes on to talk about green peas.
